At St. Joseph School, both children and adults strive to uphold the dignity of all human life, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, or religion because every human is a unique creation of God, made in His image and likeness. Following the Diocesan guidelines for all subjects, the K-3 curriculum emphasizes the development of Catholic Faith values and attitudes. Students are provided with a daily religion/theology program, the basic subjects of reading, mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, art, music, computer education, Spanish and physical education are taught.
Religion: The Christ Our Life series by the Sisters of Notre Dame of Chardon, Ohio is used in all grades. The curriculum incorporates teachable moments, stories, prayer, and experiences throughout the day.
Readiness & Writing: Student learn through music, movement, and multisensory manipulatives to teach all core essential readiness skills, including crayon grip, letter & number recognition, letter & number formation, and body awareness.
Language & Literacy: Students use dramatic play, singing,manupulatives, and movement to teach children early reading and writing skills such as rhyming. We expose children to rich literature to foster a love of reading, build vocabulary, and learn how books work.
Numbers & Math: We use music, rhymes, manipulatives and blocks to teach counting, comparisons, spatial awareness, patterning, sequencing, matching, sorting, problem solving, and even geometry skills. Lessons and centers time gives children time to play with real objects and test their ideas so that math becomes real and meaningful.
Students are taught the subjects of reading and mathematics through individual and/or group instruction. Our education program is tailored to each student. We provide students a rigorous education as preparation for becoming intellectually and morally sound members of society. Our students are challenged to achieve their best in body, mind, and spirit through study of each subject area.
